Bison Express Welcomes New Head Football Coach to the Family

By Aujha L. Alexander

Big things are on the horizon for Bison football. Howard University Athletics Department welcomed Mike London to the roaster as head football coach in March along with a few other new coaching staff members. A new head football coach means a new beginning for the Bison, who finished the last season 2-9. Coach London also brings something the team and fans haven’t seen in a while: hope. He signed on with the Mecca with a previous coaching record of 51-51.

Bison Express held a public meet and greet to introduce the new coach and open up the floor for any pressing questions and concerns. Although the change of staff may be a little tough to get used to for some, Coach London showed that he is adapting well by assuring the crowd [with true Bison pride] that the changes are indeed, for the better.

I'm a glass half filled guy, I'm not a glass half empty guy. The perception, the perspective, and the reality is what we're working on.

Coach London believes Bison football can achieve new heights through a more involved coaching style, heavy recruiting efforts, and increased alumni support of the program. He has already begun working diligently, holding spring practice from 3pm to 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He also brings in recruits for practices on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, usually followed by a campus tour.

I am very appreciative of this group. Hopefully, the next time we talk it can double, and then triple. And then hopefully, there will be people outside the door trying to get in because it all starts with us, at this date, at this time.

The first Spring Game will be on Saturday April 22, at 1pm at Greene Stadium.
