The Howard University men’s soccer team in 1971 was perfect.
It won 15 straight games through its regular season to the NCAA Championship game.
Two All-Americas, Keith Aqui and Alvin Henderson were on that team as Howard became the first HBCU to win an NCAA title.
Then, it was taken away. The NCAA ruled that one or some of the international players were ineligible.
It doesn't matter what the NCAA thought or did.
In the eyes and hearts of loyal Bison throughout the world, this team won the championship! This team owned the 1971 season.
With its motto, “Truth, crushed to the earth, shall rise again,” the 1974 men’s soccer team went undefeated through its season and through postseason play – 19-0.
In the regular season, it outscored opponents, 63-6.
The Bison marched to the championship game by defeating four teams.
With a 2-1 quadruple-overtime victory against St. Louis University, Howard University took the national championship avenging the vacated championship of 1971.
