In order to address the health needs of the local and global community, Howard University is committed to enhancing its public health footprint through the establishment of an interprofessional and multidisciplinary Masters of Public Health program. The Floyd J. Malveaux, MD, PhD Endowed Chair in Public Health will allow us to recruit a highly talented individual to lead the MPH program. The fund itself will be used to support the teaching, research, service, and other activities of the chair holder. The endowed chair and the MPH Program are inextricably linked. By recruiting a Chair for the Public Health programs at Howard University with a strong background in interdisciplinary research and teaching, the programs themselves will be further strengthened. Floyd J. Malveaux, MD, Ph.D., was a graduate of the Howard University College of Medicine and returned to serve as Dean of the College of Medicine and then as Vice Provost for Health Affairs. Dr. Malveaux was a nationally recognized expert on asthma and allergies and worked extensively to address health disparities and improve the quality of health care and health outcomes, especially among low-income, urban and underserved populations. Dr. Malveaux was a champion of Howard University and of interprofessional approaches to addressing health concerns faced by the community. The faculty who will hold the Floyd J. Malveaux, MD, Ph.D. Endowed Chair for Public Health will embody Dr. Malveaux’s sustained commitment to teaching and research in the field. About Dr. Malveaux
